We have been asked to carry out research on behalf of HMRC who would like hear from individuals about how services relating to managing tax affairs can be improved to make it easier for people like you to manage their tax affairs. This is an exploratory piece of research and will help HMRC to design a better service for individuals and understand how they can be best supported. The government is committed to making it easier for individuals and businesses to get their tax right and keep on top of their affairs. To this end, HMRC has identified five customer groups – large business, mid-size business, small business, individuals, and wealthy individuals – with a tailored strategy for supporting each group. For individual customers, the largest of the customer groups, there is a recognition that while the majority are on PAYE, there are an increasing number who are required to report under SA (Self Assessment) and are entitled to benefits and credits. The increasing complexity and blurring of boundaries within this group presents HMRC with both a challenge and an opportunity: to ensure that its services meet their needs and results in individuals paying the correct amount of tax. HMRC want to build an understanding of what effort means to customers to ensure HMRC’s products and processes are appropriately designed and meet the needs of this population. The research will be in the form of two 2.5 hour workshops… one per evening. Group 4: Self Employed/Business – Monday 23rd
Group 1: Regular Income (PAYE) – Tuesday 24th
