Crime and Policing in Waltham Forest

Our aim is to speak with residents of Waltham Forest with protected characteristics (e.g. diverse ethnic heritage communities, LGBTQ+ communities) and lived experience of

1) crime and/or

2)  lack of trust in police and/or

3) poor experiences with policing. We want to learn about their experiences of crime and policing in Waltham Forest.

We want to reassure everyone that this is anonymous/non-identifiable and their safety/ confidentiality will not be compromised.

We are coming to listen to them and learn about this in an open and non-judgmental way.

They are the experts in their experience and we want to understand these more deeply.

When speaking with victims/survivors of crime we will not be asking about details of their crime.

The focus instead will be on the follow-up and support following the event, with different support sources including the police. As well as understanding how their experience of crime impacts their life in Waltham Forest today.

Please DO NOT apply if you don’t live in the Borough.  The client is only interested in the borough, not nearby boroughs.

The Format will be as below:

Family Ethno’s:  to be held face to face in parents’ home or a convenient location, i.e. café.

• This is to include a parent of a teenager who has had an experience of Stop & Search in or out of the borough of Waltham Forest, the teenager themselves and a grandparent.

• The session will be 2 hours

The incentive will be £65 per adult (parent & grandparent) and £30 for the teenager.

Dates and times –Between 21st – 27th November to suit.

Friendship Pairs – Ideally to be held in the lead respondents’ home but can be flexible and held online over Zoom.

• Both to be living in Waltham Forest

• The lead respondent only must be a victim/survivor of crime in Waltham Forest.  The second respondent is to be fully screened as well.

• Both to have protected characteristics, e.g., diverse ethnicity, long-term health condition or part of the LBGTQIA+ community

• Lead respondent to be open about discussing their experience of support following the crime and how it has impacted their sense of safety.  They do not need to relive the experience of the crime; we will never directly ask them about this unless they choose to share

 This session will be 90 minutes

Incentive will be £50 per person
