This has now been broadened to include people from anywhere in London. However, we will need to pick people who are geographically close to allow the researchers and nurse to travel between locations.
This is a little involved so please read carefully. We have been asked to carry out research on behalf of the University of Essex to test procedures for collecting hair and blood samples from people on a large social research survey. Before the survey next year, they want to test the collecting of hair and blood samples to see how acceptable people find this process… and whether the instructions for collecting these samples are good enough. · The research is completely voluntary, anonymous and confidential · The research company is completely independent from the University of Essex · The research company will not pass to the University of Essex any details about people who take part that could be traced back to them. Are you interested in taking part? Self administered This will involve an interviewer coming to your home and asking you to collect a small sample of hair from the back of your head, and a ‘dried blood spot sample’ – this involves pricking your finger and collecting blood drops on a piece of filter paper. The interviewer will explain the process and give you a set of instructions and the materials you need to do this. Another researcher will also accompany the interviewer to observe and to ask you some questions about how you found the process and whether the instructions were clear enough. Nurse administered This will involve a nurse coming to your home and collecting a small sample of hair from the back of your head, a ‘dried blood spot sample’ – this involves pricking your finger and collecting blood drops on a piece of filter paper, and a small sample of blood taken from a vein in your arm. A researcher will also accompany the nurse to observe and to ask you some questions about how you found the process. In both areas, the visit will last up to an hour, if it’s just a single person. If you live with other people and they are also willing to give samples, then it will take a bit longer. If there are children aged 10 to 15 in the household and you’re willing for them to take part, they will be asked to give a hair sample only – no blood. Dates/Times Nurse administered – Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd Incentives Each adult who participates (max 2 adults per household) will receive £50, either paid into a designated PayPal account… or as PERKS online vouchers. Any child in the household providing hair sample only, will receive £20 in PERKS vouchers. Confidentiality The research will be confidential and anonymous. We will NOT be doing any analysis of the samples you provide. This research is just to test the process ahead of a large survey next year. If you’re interested in taking part in this project, please enter your details below, then click on the “Register For This Project” button at the bottom of this form. Once we receive your application, if you fit the basic criteria, we will contact you for further screening before you’re selected to take part. You will only be contacted if the answers you’ve provided meet the criteria for this project and we have spaces left on the group – if you do not receive a response then you are not required to participate on this occasion. |
